“I’m so confused.”
That was the beginning of the song I heard while I was driving, and I was hooked. I was like, yeah, I can relate. I had to hear the rest of it. The song is called “Thy Will” and it’s by Hillary Scott (you might know her from Lady Antebellum!)
Maybe you can relate to life being confusing sometimes, too. For me, it can get confusing as I try to balance being a wife and mom, launching a book, booking singing and speaking gigs, doing laundry, figuring out what the next few months are going to look like, planning ahead and hoping I’m making the best choices along the way.
If you’re a Christian, it can also be confusing when we’re trying to follow God, but we’re not sure if we’re doing it right. I can totally relate to that, too.
But tonight the confusion melted away as I sang “Thy Will” at my church.
It’s such an honest, cry-of-my-heart song. I think we all have moments when we feel confused. We may not understand everything that happens or what God is doing in our lives. But something changes when you realize He sees you. As I sang “I know you see me. I know you hear me, Lord. Your plans are for me. Goodness you have in store,” I truly believed it. I definitely know God loves me, no matter what the circumstances say.
And what’s awesome is God sees you, hears you and loves you, too.
Here’s a little video clip I shared on my Instagram feed earlier, from our rehearsal of “Thy Will” —
It was awesome to be able to sing such a personal, touching song at our church, Second Baptist Woodway Campus with an amazingly talented band (shout outs to Joel, Alia, Josh, David, Amaya & John … and of course, our awesome sound guy, my hubby Adam!) 😉
Every now and then, you hear a song that really connects with you in a special way. That was “Thy Will” for me.
I’ve been confused by medical diagnoses and difficult things I’ve seen loved ones have to deal with. I’ve felt God speak to me through His word, saying “I see you and I love you, my daughter.” And I’ve prayed “Thy Will Be Done” many times, genuinely wanting God’s will to be done in my life and for my loved ones because I know His plans are always better than any plans I can come up with.
It’s normal to feel confused, worried, stressed out or fearful. We’re human. But when we don’t stay there in that confusing place; when we hear Jesus say “follow me” and we do that, we experience His love and come to understand that He really does see us and love us.
At that point, it’s not hard to say, Lord, Thy Will Be Done.
