Ok, I’ll cut to the chase. My 1 Big Tip for an Epic Summer is: “Houston on the Cheap!” (If you’re not in Houston, that’s ok! You can apply my 1 Big Tip for an Epic Summer no matter where you are! Just keep reading!)

Houston on the Cheap is my friend Vicki Powers’ website, where she shares fun, family-friendly, free (and sometimes cheap) deals, events and more.

Just this week, I went to a FREE night with the Houston Symphony to hear amazing, EPIC music from movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I found out because I saw a tweet from Vicki @HOUCheap!

Inviting friends to join us made it even MORE fun!!!

Also this week, the kids & I enjoyed an afternoon at the super fun Health Museum (FREE!)

They got to watch the FREE 4D movie “Planet You” (and they rocked those 3D glasses) activities that included a human size hamster-wheel type machine that they loved getting in, and it was all FREE!

They had a TON of fun all over the Health Museum’s different areas, playing interactive games and puzzles, including this EPIC hamster-wheel-type-thing!

And my daughter didn’t want to leave unless she got to ride the bicycle (she did not mind that her riding buddy was a freaky blacklight skeleton!) So fun!

If you’re in Houston and hoping to have an EPIC SUMMER for your family, Vicki put together a list of 95 free & cheap things to do in H-town this summer. Is that a DARE? Are you saying we should do ALL of them, Vicki??? Hey, it’s worth a try!

I’m definitely adding to our family’s EPIC SUMMER list the Houston Symphony’s Dreamworks music night (Kung Fu Panda? How to Train Your Dragon? YES!) And there’s a Sound of Music sing-a-long coming up, too! EEK!!! (You know I played Maria in The Sound of Music, right? Dream Come True! I’m SO ready to slay at that sing-a-long!!! HA!)

I’m also keeping my eye on those free and cheap movie nights (the ones at Discovery Green are always super fun!) And Miller Outdoor Theatre is another incredible (and FREE) venue for concerts & more. Just make it a picnic and bring everyone to make it extra fun!

Ok, so that’s all Houston-related. But for you reading this outside the Houston area, here’s my 1 Big Tip for an Epic Summer for you:

  • Google “freebies and deals”
  • Find local websites, magazines and mommy blogs that are sharing all the fun stuff.
  • Search “free summer programs” online

I know that’s more like 3 Big Tips, but hey! If it helps you find all the fun, cool & free stuff for you to enjoy, go for it!

Just to give you an idea, I lived in Sacramento, California when both my kids were born and I found out about local events and deals through Sacramento Parent magazine. (I even wrote an article for them!) Those resources are out there. Do an internet search, find those top sites with great info & have the most Epic Summer EVER!

Love (and summer fun),

Coppelia

P.S. Hey! I’d love to hear from you! Let me know what fun things you’re planning to do this summer in Houston (or wherever you are!)
